3D Yacht Renderings

The process of creating amazing images has been evolving with new computing power and the skills of artists to translate the vision into reality. 3D yacht rendering and visualization has been a core part of our business for over ten years. With grounding in photorealistic architectural animation the team at Urban Voyage quickly developed unique capabilities in the marine sector. Virtual images enable customers to visually understand the implications of design choices, yards reduce the change-order process and yacht chartering companies to market and sell build projects.

Creating interactive 3D presentations and boat renderings seems like a dream business because we have the opportunity to bring life to CAD drawings and dreams into reality. Building a yacht is a life-time experience and goal for many wealthy business moguls, entrepreneurs and families. Ensuring smooth communication of ideas and concepts can make the difference between a construction of a superyacht and the creation of an award-winning masterpiece.

It was our pleasure to work on SY Starfish and the amazing team to create some of our most spectacular and luxurious 3D renderings to date. The superyacht interior design has been translated into high quality animation for marketing and visualization. See the video of the 50 meter Star Fish below:

The 50 metre Star Fish, projected to launch in April of 2012, will follow in the footsteps of the acclaimed 45 metre Aquos Yachts project Big Fish. Star Fish, currently under construction at McMullen & Wing, will be based on the same hull form, but will include six staterooms and accommodation for 14 crew, and a flexible owner’s deck with optional forward-facing cabin and both fore and aft decks.”

“The stunning arrangement by Greg C. Marshall Naval Architects, which is also responsible for the hull design, allows the skylounge deck to be dedicated solely to owner’s use, or to be incorporated in the yacht’s public space scheme. The captain’s cabin and Starship Enterprise-like wheelhouse will be located on a fourth deck with a dramatic flying bridge and observation pod above it.”

Congratulations to the owner and team behind the stunning Imagine II Superyacht!

Imagine II has just won the Best Sailing Yacht 30m-44.99m at the World Superyacht Awards held in London. These awards honour the finest new superyacht builds delivered to their owners in the past twelve months.

Awards are decided in consultation with owners, yacht builders and naval architects, with vessels being compared equally against other yachts of similar size and shape. All of the judges make extraordinary efforts to visit as many of the contending yachts as possible. They are also presented with a dossier containing a detailed brief on every yacht in the competition which includes a statement from the owner, designer and builder, together with pictures of the yacht and a specification list.

The team at Urban Voyage are proud to have contributed throughout the design, build and support phases of this amazing project. It was an honour being chosen to participate on the Imagine II project, and to work with some of the World’s best designers, builders, representatives and managers.

We were privileged to provide interior and exterior 3D visualization services to help capture the design vision and present this an easy to understand visual platform. The Urban Voyage team helped to streamline communications and translate key concepts into renderings that the owner was able to approve and sign-off for construction.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Imagine II build project – an outstanding result!

Infiniti Yachts has just launched its unique luxury range of superyachts at the Monaco Yacht Show. The highly experienced team at Infiniti Yachts offers a new brand of ultra-high performance custom sailing yachts which target the superyacht market from 24m/82ft upwards. Quality design, innovative styling and advanced engineering are key to pitching Infiniti’s offer head to head with other luxury yacht leaders but there is an even bigger difference – Dynamic Stability Systems (DSS) technology.

DSS technology features across the range that Infiniti offers. A foil that extends to leeward enables a yacht to be stiffer, faster and less prone to pitching and motion. Effectively a yacht takes on the characteristics and stability of that of a much larger size.

Urban Voyage has proudly produced the marketing material for Infiniti Yachts, including branding and stationery, 3D images, website, brochure and 3D iPad application allowing users to interact with the yacht and see the Infiniti’s performance against competitive yachts in its class.

New Zealand has produced another new superyacht order, this time from Alloy Yachts. This is very encouraging news considering the lack of new orders placed the world over during the last year. This week The Yacht Report had the privilege of being the first members of the media to see the new order – Hull number AY43 – underway at the Alloy Yachts yard,  the order for which was placed in the middle of last year.

Work began on AY43, which as of yet has no working name, three weeks ago.  She is being built for a repeat Alloy Yachts customer.  She is a 47m aluminium M/Y, 41.73m on the waterline, and is built to Lloyds classification.  Designed by Dubois, her interior is by Donald Starkey.  AY43 will have a beam of 9.19m and a draft of 2.21m, reaching a maximum speed of 17kn, and cruising at 14.5kn on CAT engines.  Alloy Yachts success in procuring a new order is testament to their solid reputation as a yard and the faith from owners in the yachts that they build.  Having recently celebrated their 25th birthday (which we will report on fully at a later date) they are long established and look set to continue their building success for many years to come.

Here, for the first time, we can bring readers a rendering of this new order.

This brings the total number of orders underway at Alloy Yachts to three:  the 44m S/Y AY40, Imagine II, which will hand over in May this year, AY41 and AY43.  AY42, Paraiso, remains suspended for now.

Whilst at the yard we were privy to visiting and learning more about the top secret Phillipe Briand designed S/Y AY41, which will deliver at the end of this year. We will bring you further information on this exciting project at a later date within our print outlets.

Full specs on all the Alloy yachts in build can be found at SuperyachtIntelligence.com

With the BMW Oracle team yesterday defeating Alinghi in the second of a best-of-three series match in Valencia, Spain, the America’s Cup will be returning to America for the first time since 1995. It will also resume it’s multiple-challenger format. But there are still questions about exactly where and when the next Cup will be held.

BMW Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison said Newport, Rhode Island, San Diego, California, and San Francisco, California are possible venues. “We have to develop bases for many teams because it is going to be a multi-challenger event,” he said this morning during a press conference.

After two years of acrimonious court battles, which ultimately forced the two teams into head-to-head races in the waters off Valencia, the tarnished America’s Cup should regain some of its lustre.

But there is also a question regarding what the next generation of Cup yachts will look like. BMW Oracle’s 105-ft. trimaran beat Alinghi’s 110-ft. catamaran convincingly during both races, trouncing it during the second race by 5min 26sec.

In a separate press conference, Alinghi chief Ernesto Bertarelli said he would like to see multihulls as the racing boat of choice. “We had the fastest possible boats racing each other, I think that is good,” he told AFP news-wire. “Why would you want to go slowly?”

The next America’s Cup is traditionally held every three or four years, which means it could be held in 2013 at the earliest. Ellison confirmed media reports that Oracle had selected an Italian syndicate, Mascalzone Latino, as its Challenger of Record. Other challengers from multiple countries are also expected to participate.

Retired co-founder of the Vancouver-based auction house Richtie Bros Auctioneers, Dave Ritchie is putting his 67m (220ft) superyacht Apoise up for auction at the end of March. The yacht, built by Lürssen, will be sold at a no reserve auction in Grand Cayman.

Ritchie told the Vancouver Sun that he wanted to “let the market determine the vessel’s value and sell it using the same principles he built his business on.” By using an unreserved auction it would, “Allow the market to determine the value of the item on the day it’s being sold.” The building cost of the yacht when new was €65m or C$96m. Ritchie described the auction “as a fair way to value something.”

The sale has caused a great deal of interest and is being seen within the superyacht market as a unique event in that it is the only vessel of such a size to be put up for auction without a reserve price. The buyer will gain a yacht that features in the top 100 in the world and includes an owner’s stateroom and five guest suites, two Jacuzzis, six decks and a crew of 19.

Crestron unveils its new line of ultra-slim, low profile, high definition touchpanels. Only 2-inches deep, Crestron V-Panels are the thinnest available, and uniquely provide VESA mount installation in addition to desktop and flush wall-mount.

Offered in 12″ (VESA, tilt, wall) and 15″ (VESA, tilt, wall) versions, a V-Panel can function as both a touchpanel control interface and flat panel HD display.  A choice of either the Crestron DGE-1 or DGE-2 external graphics engine enable V-Panels to display both HD (HDMI/HDCP) and analogue video (VGA, component, and streaming media from online videos, digital media servers and Web cameras). V-Panels can also integrate VoIP communications, embedded PC applications, USB-HID control, onscreen annotation and whole house control, delivering a complete digital media, control and communication solution.
Separating the graphics engine hardware from the display helps make the V-Panel so versatile and flexible,” says Robin van Meeuwen, Crestron UK MD and International Sales Director. “You can choose the most appropriate graphics engine to suit the application, and the hardware can be placed in the equipment rack, simplifying connectivity to control and other AV equipment.”
Today’s modern homes include a variety of digital HD audio and video sources, such as HD cable and satellite, Blu-ray players, iTunes®, Apple® TV, computers and more. Both Digital Graphics Engines feature a Crestron DigitalMedia™ output to provide direct connectivity with the new V-Panels, so uncompressed HD signals may be displayed on touchpanels for the first time. Using the DGE-2, two fully-scalable, full-motion video windows support standard video, HDTV, high-resolution RGB/VGA, and protected HDMI/DVI and DisplayPort multimode.
Other features of the V-Panel include built-in annotation, which gives the user the ability to draw over a moving or paused video image. The native IP intercom can be leveraged to talk panel-to-panel with someone in another room, and Crestron SIP Phone allows 2-way communication between touchpanels, as well as with traditional and SIP/VoIP phones. The USB port provides direct connection to a keyboard and mouse (or wirelessly via an RF dongle) for efficient PC/Internet navigation right from the V-Panel location.
